Market Landscape Report: Core Vendors 2025
Omdia Analysts have just released their annual “Market Landscape: Core Vendors – 2025” report[1]. The report assessed 16 vendors for both 4G and 5G infrastructure from a combined business and technical/portfolio perspective.
The report focuses on software only, excluding services and other solutions in the RAN domain. Highlighting the dominance of large vendors (Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, ZTE) as market leaders, the report highlights a group of upcoming vendors like Enea.
The market leaders make up 88% of the total revenue from vendors. The domination of larger players was to be expected as their business performance (the report combines business and technical into a single score) is based largely on their EPC (evolved packet core) and 5G packet core business. The 88% figure was down from a high of 95.4% in 2020, highlighting the increased competition around the 5G Core.
Enea’s upcoming vendor status was highlighted by the number of new logos gained in the last year, with improvements in both our business performance and portfolio dimensions, with improvements in the analytics and AI/ML category being recognised, despite not having the full suite of 5G network functions (NFs).
The new component of portfolio assessment was the AI/ML category, introduced to track the move to intent-based and autonomous networks. Telecom networks will use classic AI, generative AI and agentic AI to increase operational efficiency and monetization. Enea was assessed in the #2 runner-up group in this category behind the large vendors Ericsson and Huawei.
Overall, the report highlights the competitive gains of upcoming vendors and challengers to the dominance of the larger vendors. Demonstrating the value of open standard interfaces and common cloud native architectures, enabling innovation and thought leadership, benefiting the telecom industry.
