New Enea Linux version empowers next generation network functions

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, June 19, 2014. Enea (NASDAQ OMX Nordic: ENEA), a leading operating system solution vendor for the communications industry, today announced a new milestone in the evolution of the community based Enea Linux distribution. Enea Linux 4.0 delivers the throughput, responsiveness, and virtualization technologies needed in next generation networking nodes, ranging from individual devices up to Network Function Virtualization (NFV) solutions.

“We have built a state-of-the-art Linux distribution, and in addition we have the capacity to build customized versions where customers benefit from unique solutions tailored to their individual use cases”, said Daniel Forsgren, SVP Product Management, Enea. “In a customized distribution, different kernel configurations and packages are integrated, optimized, tested, and supported according to the customer’s requirements”.

Enea is a truly independent Linux vendor with extensive involvement in the open source community. Enea drives the evolution of networking centric functionality in the ARM® eco system as kernel maintainer in the Linaro Networking Group (LNG) and contributor to the OpenDataPlane (ODP) initiative. This makes Enea Linux 4.0 a natural choice for embedded ARM based equipment with focus on high performance networking applications.

Enea Linux 4.0 is the most open commercial embedded distribution on the market, which is also reflected in its development tools. The tools suite consists solely of open source development tools, hardened by Enea to support all phases of the development workflow – from building Linux images to application development, including tracing, profiling, and debugging.

With Enea Linux 4.0 comes world class support, pro-active maintenance and expert services, provided by one of the world’s most experienced vendors of embedded software. Customers are relying on Enea throughout the entire product life cycle, from the development and deployment phases, all the way through the after-market stages.
