Enea and AppliedMicro Team Up for Multicore

Industry Leaders Working Together to Deliver Integrated Multicore Platforms

STOCKHOLM, Sweden.  – January 31, 2011 – Enea (NASDAQ OMX Nordic:ENEA) and AppliedMicro (NASDAQ:AMCC) today announced that they have formalized and expanded their longstanding alliance, now focusing on delivering advanced multicore hardware and software solutions to the communications market.  The two companies are long-time collaborators in a number of technical areas and have supported mutual customers on a number of previous generation platforms.  Key aspects of the relationship include product integration, joint go to market activities and exploring roadmap alignment on their respective multicore product families.

Initially, the companies will focus on delivering a highly optimized integration of Enea’s OSE®  Multicore Edition (www.enea.com/ose) realtime operating system and AppliedMicro’s Mamba single and dual core processors on AppliedMicro’s APM86290 reference development platforms.  The Mamba devices are the first members of the PacketPro™ family, offering a choice of either one or two 1.5GHz PowerPC® 465 cores, targeting applications where performance, power management, security and concurrency are key requirements.  Enea OSE Multicore Edition is configured with a unique and innovative kernel design that combines the advantages of both traditional Asymmetric Multiprocessing (AMP) and Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP).

“AppliedMicro’s Mamba processors are attracting a great deal of interest from the market, especially among tier 1 suppliers,” said Marcus Hjortsberg, Vice President of Marketing at Enea.  “We are excited to be working with an industry leader like AppliedMicro to deliver the integrated multicore platforms that the market and our joint customers are demanding,”

Other aspects of the alliance include the two companies pursuing joint go to market activities including working together on marketing programs, trade events and customer development.  In addition, Enea and AppliedMicro will seek technical and roadmap alignment to ensure that they are delivering the most optimized offerings to customers – speeding development and enabling high-performance, differentiated products.

“ENEA is an industry-leading supplier of software solutions for multicore communications applications and the breakthrough features of PacketPro family were designed specifically to meet the unique needs of network equipment developers,” said Vinay Ravuri, Vice President of the AppliedMicro Embedded Processing Business Unit. “The alliance that we have formed today helps to ensure the availability of an ecosystem of both hardware and software solutions.
