Enea offers community and commercial testing lab infrastructure for OPNFV Colorado software

Accelerating development, testing, and deployment of Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs) through the Enea hosted Pharos community lab

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, September 28, 2016 – Enea® (NASDAQ OMX Nordic:ENEA), providing software platforms and services to the connected society, today announced that the Enea hosted Pharos lab now is open to OPNFV Colorado software testing and validation for OPNFV community members. Enea also offers a range of commercial NFV development, testing, and deployment services in a dedicated NFV lab infrastructure.

OPNFV is a carrier-grade, integrated, open source platform with an intent to facilitate the introduction of new NFV products and services, and recently announced its third software release, called “Colorado”. This, the third release, is the first software revision anticipated to bring commercial grade quality, functionality and impact on the marketplace, and consists of a set of scenarios which may be extended by feature and development projects.

A crucial success factor of the OPNFV project is the geographically and technically diverse Pharos community labs which helps to ensure that OPNFV is not tied to one particular hardware architecture or vendor. Enea’s Pharos Lab is an excellent example of a pioneering capability breadth in the ecosystem, with the latest ARM based Cavium ThunderXTM, AppliedMicro, and Softiron Overdrive servers.

“Enea is a committed contributor to the OPNFV community and launched the first ARM based Pharos Lab last year to enable cross-platform flexibility and architectural choice to the ecosystem”, said Daniel Forsgren, SVP Product Management. “Our Colorado integration delivers an NFV-ready infrastructure configuration, which makes it easier for users to take their functions and services to market faster – on a variety of hardware architectures”.

Operators, Telecom Equipment Manufacturers, and suppliers of VNFs who see a value in sourcing OPNFV related services instead of doing it themselves, will find great value in Enea’s service packages, which encapsulates key Enea capabilities in an NFV context. Typical services include building, installing, and supporting bespoke OPNFV platforms, and prototyping, developing and testing complete VNFs.
