Enea showcases complete framework for VNF management at MWC

NFV service providers now have a proven and mature alternative for both network management (NMS) and virtual device management

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, February 15, 2016 – Enea® (NASDAQ OMX Nordic:ENEA), a global supplier of network software platforms and world class services, today announced the integration of Enea® ElementCenter NMS and Enea® On-device Management. The new network management offering provides a standards-based and integrated framework for NFV service orchestration.

A full demonstration will be available in the Enea booth (7J30; Hall 7) during Mobile World Congress, February 22-25, 2016.

In order to rapidly deploy and efficiently manage services provided by network functions in an NFV environment, they need to be modeled in the YANG data modeling language and managed over the NETCONF network configuration protocol. By adopting a standards-based and integrated framework, service providers can reduce management and configuration costs, while increasing the agility in deploying services at scale.

Enea’s mature and proven framework supports all major protocols and provides an extensive set of carrier grade management features through a comprehensive user interface and APIs. The framework includes a management agent for virtual networking devices (Enea On-Device Management) and a Network Management System (Enea ElementCenter NMS).

Layered view of the demonstration:

  • Enea ElementCenter is a model-driven Network Management System (NMS) that configures, monitors and controls both Physical (PNFs) and Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). It controls device communications, data storage and statistics, through a customizable modeled web-based user interface driven from NETCONF. Additionally, it generates SOAP and REST northbound interfaces from service models for OSS integration.
  • Enea On-device management is a mature management agent that provides a rich set of management APIs. It integrates northbound interfaces (NETCONF, SNMP, XML-RPC and CLI) that provide access to alarm, performance, inventory, provisioning, configuration and security related information.
  • Enea COSNOS is a system wide software platform that incorporates all aspects of NFV and includes operating systems, middleware, and necessary open source building blocks from industry collaboration projects (OPNFV, OpenStack, Open vSwitch, etc.).

“Service providers are now facing new and tougher challenges, and exponential traffic volumes together with an evolving infrastructure make network management more complex and costly”, said Daniel Forsgren, SVP Product Management, Enea. “Using Enea’s end-to-end platform infrastructure, customers can focus on their core competencies, which are the network applications and services themselves.”
