Enea Adds Evolved Commercial Solution for Embedded Device and System Management to Its Middleware Platform

Announcing Enea® Element in version 3.3.0

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 24, 2013 – Enea® (NASDAQ OMX Nordic:ENEA), a world leading operating system solution vendor for 3G and 4G infrastructure equipment, today announced version 3.3.0 of the Enea Element middleware, including an evolved commercial solution for embedded device and system management.

Complex embedded systems need a software framework that delivers manageability, availability, and robustness. Enea Element solves such challenges and enables solutions that scale from small single-board systems to elastic cloud-based clusters. From system management to high availability, Element’s unified, yet modular architecture allows its users to focus on their solution now and into the future.

Management Models and Services

Element 3.3.0 provides the ability to fully model all aspects involved in managing a device or system. This includes configuration objects, operational data objects (runtime state and status), the notifications produced and the actions that can be performed on the system. Northbound management agents include a Command Line Interpreter (CLI) with model-driven navigation for human interface and an XML-RPC Server that enables machine integration with an EMS, NMS, or OSS.

“Element’s embedded device management provides an ACID data store for persistent configuration objects with full transaction and rollback support,” said Joe Kidder, Director of Development and Product Management. “The embedded device management service takes full advantage of Element’s high availability services, providing redundant and highly available management services as well as integration with Element’s in-service upgrade and software management services.”

The service also implements a distributed and dynamic application interface for consuming configuration objects, providing operational data objects, producing notifications, and performing modeled system actions.

Cluster Management Tools

Element 3.3.0 is capable of running in IP-only network environments common to cloud platforms. It also comes with a set of cluster management tools for creating and managing Element-based clusters on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). This brings a Telco-like, carrier-grade solution platform to an on-demand, elastic, virtual platform – enabling right-sized solutions ranging from single-node systems, to COTS ATCA chassis-based systems, to scalable and flexible cloud infrastructures.
