Omdia’s new report on Traffic Management Solutions highlights both the challenges and focus points for mobile network operators and MVNO alike. The report “Traffic Management Solutions: Essential for CSPs to Deliver Superior QoE on 5G SA Networks”.
As specialist vendor Enea team contributed to the report with a number of other organizations. The volume of mobile data traffic is increasing at an uninterrupted rate with Omdia’s World Cellular Information Series (WCIS) projecting that global mobile data traffic will increase with a five-year CAGR of 22.4% through 2030, from 1,632 exabytes (EB) in 2025 to 4,484 EB in 2030. Further highlighting that, AI-based traffic, which did not exist at scale before the arrival of AI, will increase with a five-year CAGR of 65.4% from 28.9 EB in 2025 to 1,979 EB in 2030.The challenge for CSPs it o deliver high quality network access and sustain their business.
Omdia surveyed over one hundred decision-makers and influencers about the core networks of CSPs in the Americas, Europe, and Asia & Oceania for their views on traffic management tools. Starting with the key question about the main drivers for introducing traffic management functions in the network – respondents emphasise improving quality of experience balanced with regulatory compliance.
The balance of the quality of network access and financial considerations was highlighted in response to the survey question “Which data traffic management functions are critical to enhance your core network capabilities?” with Quality of experience analysis being top but over 51% said fraud detection and 44% chose video optimization as the second and third traffic management functions critical to enhance the capabilities.
