February 15, 2006, Barcelona, Spain – Global IP Sound (GIPS), the leading provider of embedded voice-processing solutions for the Voice over IP (VoIP) market, today announced that it has partnered with Enea, a world-class provider of real-time technology and services for embedded systems applications, to develop mobile VoIP solutions for the OSE platform. The companies will be announcing the partnership at the 2006 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona from February 13th to 16th.
“The mobile communications market is burgeoning, and the ability to create mobile VoIP solutions that provide better-than-PSTN voice quality will continue to drive this growth,” said Gary P. Hermansen, President and CEO of GIPS. “Global IP Sound is committed to continuing its leadership position by supporting the broadest possible range of mobile operating systems, and by giving application developers the tools to readily develop solutions on multiple platforms.”
Currently, the mobile phone market provides a wealth of opportunity. By the end of 2006, the mobile phone industry will account for 2.5 billion subscribers throughout the world, according to Boston-based Strategy Analytics. That figure will continue to rise to 3.5 billion users worldwide by the end of 2010. In addition, the mobile phone industry will generate US$800 billion in service revenues by the end of the decade, the research firm predicts.
Enea estimates that OSE is used in 50% of the world’s 3G phones and in at least 50% of the nodes of the 3G Radio Access Networks.
GIPS plans to broaden its mobile VoIP offerings by immediately leveraging the relationship to assist in the development of OSE solutions. GIPS VoiceEngine Mobile, an embedded voice-processing solution for mobile application developers, currently includes solutions for the Symbian and Windows Mobile operating systems. In turn, Enea will gain a valuable partner, with clear market leadership, that can advance the adoption of its platform and further drive the mobile VoIP market.
“OSE from Enea is taking the lead for the next-generation mobile systems, including mobile phones and the corresponding Radio Access Networks,” says Anders Flodin, director of strategic alliances at Enea. “This partnership with Global IP Sound will allow us to demonstrate our commitment to enabling high-quality VoIP for the worldwide mobile communications market. We are confident that this partnership will help us to considerably broaden the usage of OSE products and provide us inroads into new markets.”
OSE is a compact, pre-emptive, memory-protected RTOS that features automatic failure detection and health monitoring for system processes and applications, a power management system that extends battery life, and a crash-safe file system with flash support. OSE’s dynamic download capability enhances mobile device flexibility by enabling new applications to be downloaded to systems as they operate in the field. OSE also features a complete networking solu¬tion, including a dual-mode IPv4/IPv6 TCP/IP stack with MobileIP capability, and a comprehensive suite of networking applications, including DHCP, DNS, FTP, TFTP, Telnet, Web Server, SSL and IPSec.
