Mountain View, CA February 1, 2006 – Enea, the world leader in advanced device software, and Cavium Networks, a world leader in security, network services, and embedded processor solutions, today announced the first quarter availability of Enea’s OSE™ real-time operating system for Cavium’s OCTEON family of Multi-core MIPS64-based processors. Cavium also recently announced the expansion of its OCTEON processor family, adding 10 new highly integrated SOCs, each containing one or two MIPS64 cores.
“Enea is committed to providing real-time operating systems and middleware solutions for the embedded converged device revolution”, said Karl-Gustav Niska, VP of Marketing of Enea. “Supporting the OCTEON processor family offers our customers a software-compatible processor platform ranging in performance from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps.”
“Cavium Networks is fueling the deployment of intelligent next generation services with its revolutionary OCTEON Multi-core MIPS processor family”, said Rajiv Khemani, Vice President Marking of Cavium Networks. “Working with Enea will provide our customers a robust and feature rich software infrastructure for next-generation networking applications.”
Cavium Networks’ OCTEON MIPS64-based processor family provides 1 – 16 MIPS64-based cores with application performance ranging from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps at price points starting under $20. The OCTEON processor family provides networking vendors a single chip with integrated Ethernet and/or SPI4.2 networking interfaces, a 144-bit DRAM DDR-2 memory controller, an optional RLDRAM/DDR-2 memory controller, optional TCAM connectivity and internal hardware acceleration for packet processing, TCP, and security, compression/decompression and string matching.
OSE is a compact, pre-emptive, memory-protected RTOS that features automatic failure detection and health monitoring for system processes and applications, a power management system that extends battery life, and a crash-safe file system with flash support. OSE’s message-based interprocess communications framework simplifies the design of multi-core MIPS64-based systems by making it easy to distribute and redistribute complex applications across multiple cores. OSE’s dynamic download capability enhances mobile device flexibility by enabling new applications to be downloaded to systems as they operate in the field. OSE also features a complete networking solu¬tion, including a dual-mode IPv4/IPv6 TCP/IP stack with MobileIP capability, and a comprehensive suite of networking applications, including DHCP, DNS, FTP, TFTP, Telnet, Web Server, SSL and IPSec.
