Stockholm and Paris, July 7th, 2005 - Enea announced today that C2 Diagnostics, a leading provider of custom instrumentation for the diagnostics industry, has selected Enea’s OSE real-time operating system (RTOS) for use in MYTHIC, the world’s smallest automated multi-parameter haematology analysis system.
C2 Diagnostics’ new system utilizes a Freescale Coldfire processor running the OSE Epsilon RTOS. The Coldfire processor combines a high-performance core with versatile I/O and connectivity options such as USB, CAN, LCD touch screen, Ethernet, analog and digital I/O. Together, Coldfire and OSE Epsilon provide an excellent platform for building secure, compact, ultra-reliable medical instruments such as MYTHIC.
“We were very pleased to have been selected by C2 Diagnostics for this top-notch instrument, said Nicklas Gustafson, product marketing manager at Enea. “Coldfire’s versatile I/O facilities, together with OSE Epsilon’s hard real-time responsiveness, are ideal for managing the step motors, valves, data acquisition interfaces, system control and real time processes required for advanced medical instruments. MYTHIC’s low-cost, compact size, versatility, high performance and ultra high reliability are testament to the efficiency, flexibility, and reliability of the OSE/Coldfire platform and C2 analysis technology.”
“MYTHIC has been a two-year development effort for us,” said Henri Champseix, CEO of C2 Diagnostics. “OSE’s hard real-time capabilities and pre-integration with the Coldfire processor and PEG GUI, together with Enea’s flexible licensing policy and outstanding technical support, have greatly streamlined the prototyping and software development process, enabling us to move from concept to a high-reliability, fully-validated, production instrument in record time.”
Enea’s OSE/Coldfire platform combines the OSE Epsilon RTOS and Illuminator system debugger with a TCP/IP stack. The platform also features Swell Software’s PEG GUI, which makes it easy to incorporate efficient, user friendly, ergonomic graphical user interfaces (GUI) into real-time data acquisition and control systems like medical instruments.
The OSE Epsilon kernel is optimized for high-performance, resource-constrained applications. Written entirely in assembler, OSE Epsilon features pre-emptive, priority-based task scheduling, occupies as little as 2 kbytes of RAM, provides integrated error handling, and features a worst-case interrupt latency of 1 usec.
More about C2 Diagnostics’ technology
MYTHIC 22 is the smallest 22-parameter haematology analyzer utilizing optics in the world. Based on C2 Diagnostics’ patented technology, MYTHIC combines a single lysing reagent with mono dilution (~1/170). MYTHIC uses conductivity measurements to obtain a Leukocyte count, 550-nm photometric measurements of the haemoglobin, optical measurements to obtain five Leukocyte sub-populations (lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils), and standard impedancemetry to analyze red blood cells and platelets.
MYTHIC’s innovative technology enables it to measure 22 different parameters in just 72 seconds (50 results per hour) using only 3 reagents, 18 valves and 3 motors. This simplicity and efficiency enables MYTHIC to deliver its high level of performance in a compact, lightweight package that costs less, consumes less power, and requires less maintenance and service than competitive instruments. It also enables MYTHIC to perform its measurements with lower blood sample volumes using less reagent, further reducing operating costs.
Availability of product
The 18-parameter version of MYTHIC is available immediately. The advanced 22-parameter version will be launched January 2006. C2 Diagnotics’ customer, Orphée S.A, exclusively distributes both versions of the products. For more information about Orphée S.A, please visit: www.orphee-medical.com
