March 16, 2005, Stockholm, Sweden – Enea today announced it has joined the Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) group. As a participant under the group’s “Advisor” program, Enea will be part of OMTP’s strategic work to produce recommendations for open standards in the mobile device industry.
The OMTP group was established in June 2004 by eight international mobile operators to collaborate with industry-leading companies in all sectors of the mobile space. Its mission is to promote open standards and to define platform requirements for application interfaces in mobile devices. With the addition of Enea, the OMTP group will have 50 members and participants.
“We are pleased to welcome Enea to the OMTP group and look forward to the company’s active support in our mission to better meet the user experience requirements of mobile users worldwide,” said Mats Nilsson, managing director of the OMTP group.
OMTP’s workgroups are involved in projects such as defining a Java API for mobile devices, requirements of an OMTP core software platform independent of underlying technology, and identifying common elements and requirements within the user experience (UE) layer.
"We believe that OMTP will be central in shaping the future of the mobile phone user experience and the definition of new services. With a clearer and more consistent set of operator requirements, the mobile industry can enhance the user experience and reduce the cost of developing new handsets. Enea is committed to contributing to the success of the OMTP mission," says Jan Zaar, Business Development Director Wireless at Enea Embedded Technology.
More about the OMTP group
The OMTP group was formed on June 23, 2004. The aim is to define the platform requirements necessary for mobile devices to deliver openly available standardized application interfaces that will provide customers with a more consistent and improved user experience across different devices, whilst also enabling individual operators and manufacturers to customize and differentiate their offering. The OMTP group is an open association, with membership or participation available to organizations wanting to adopt OMTP requirements, to assist the process of achieving the OMTP group’s goals, or simply to follow the latest efforts and results of the OMTP group. Membership is open only to mobile operators, whereas participation as a sponsor, advisor or associate, is open to any organization. Members, sponsors and advisors are eligible to be actively involved in projects formed by OMTP; associates receive information on current initiatives activities.
