Embedded Systems Conference Booth # 2202
San Francisco, CA. Embedded Systems Conference, March 8, 2005 – Enea Embedded Technology today announced that it has joined the Eclipse Foundation and is now a full member of the Eclipse Add-In-Provider and Eclipse Membership At Large communities. Enea also announced that it is in the process of developing an Integrated Development Environment for the Eclipse framework, which will be optimized for the OSE real-time operating system.
To support source code development and debug, Enea’s new IDE will utilize the CDT (C/C++ Development Tools) Project, a fully functional C and C++ Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for the Eclipse platform. Enea will also offer profiling and other IDE components for the Eclipse platform.
“The Eclipse Framework is a big win for embedded OEMs, enabling them to access best-of-breed tools from multiple vendors without locking themselves into a particular supplier’s proprietary framework”, said Mike Christofferson, director of product marketing at Enea. “It’s also a big win for RTOS companies like Enea who want to offer their customers a complementary IDE and other point tools without having to provide the entire framework and plunge headlong into the tools business.”
Eclipse is an open platform for tool integration built by an open community of tool providers. Operating under an open source paradigm with a common public license, royalty free source code and world wide redistribution rights, the Eclipse platform provides tool developers ultimate flexibility and control over their software technology. Eclipse-based tools give developers freedom of choice in a multi-language, multi-platform, multi-vendor environment, providing a plug-in framework that makes it easier to create, integrate and utilize software tools. This interoperable framework reduces development time and cost, enabling tool providers to leverage platform reuse and focus on creating enhanced new development technology.
The CDT combines software produced by the CDT team with third party software developed from other Open Source Projects. The software produced by the CDT team is licensed under the Common Public License. The software designed by third parties is made available under their respective licenses. The current release includes a basic C/C++ editor, debugger, launcher, parser, search engine, content assist provider, and Makefile generator.
More on OSE
OSE is a memory-protected RTOS optimized for high-availability, high-reliability distributed communications systems. Utilizing the host processor’s hardware memory management facilities, OSE provides a firewall that enhances reliability and availability by preventing kernel and application processes from corrupting each other.
Development support for OSE includes Soft Kernel, a simulator that enables designers to develop OSE-based applications on Linux, Windows, or Solaris host operating systems in advance of hardware availability. It also includes Illuminator, a system-level analysis and profiling tool that enables programmers to monitor, control and collect data for applications viewed as a sequence of events (such as context switches and message-passing between processes).
