TCI6482 and Enea’s OSE RTOS Provide Optimal Platform for 3G Wireless Infrastructure Applications
February 11, 2005, Stockholm - Enea Embedded Technology today announced that it is the first third-party software vendor to offer real-time operating system support for Texas Instruments’ new C64x digital signal processor, the TCI6482. Together, OSE and the TCI6482 provide an optimal platform for hosting 3G wireless infrastructure applications, enabling OEMs to bring versatile, high-availability wireless systems to market in record time.
The new TCI6482 is the industry’s most power-efficient DSP for wireless infrastructure systems, capable of handling multiple 3G air interfaces in a range of base station form factors. Relative to previous-generation TMS320C64x DSPs, the new TCI6482 utilizes enhanced DSP and wireless instructions that enable it to deliver an average performance increase of 30 percent for wireless infrastructure applications and up to 5x for certain algorithms.
“OSE’s efficiency and small footprint has enabled our customers to consistently achieve high channel performance with our DSPs,” said Josef Alt, Texas Instruments’ European marketing manager. “Combining Enea’s powerful real-time operating system with the TCI6482 enables our customers to create optimized high-performance solutions for 3G wireless infrastructure.”
In addition to the new TCI6482, OSE supports all previous-generation C64x DSPs in both single-processor and multiprocessor configurations. OSE’s integrated Link Handler greatly simplifies the design of distributed C64x systems by providing a seamless interprocess communications mechanism that enables multiple processes running on multiple DSPs to communicate as if they were residing on the same DSP.
“OSE support for the C64X and our commitment to future DSPs in the C64X family secures backward compatibility for existing customers and a proven path for future customers and applications,” said Adrian Leufvén, vice president of marketing at Enea Embedded Technology.
